Virginia sends a message to country; Democrats flip Executive Branch, expand Democratic majority in the House of Delegates
Ashburn, VA – Today, Virginia, the Nation’s bellwether, flipped the State’s Executive Branch and expanded the Democratic majority in the House of Delegates.
Congressman Subramanyam issues the following statement:
Today was the beginning of the end for MAGA. Voters across the Commonwealth overwhelmingly rejected the Trump Administration’s policies and sent a message to the country that voters will hold Republicans in Congress accountable in 2026 and beyond if they continue to blindly follow President Trump.
Not only did we flip the Governor’s Mansion, we saw that Republican culture war messaging failed in races where Democrats flipped two delegate seats in the 10th Congressional District and retained a majority in the school board.
Republicans should heed the calls of voters in Virginia to end this shutdown, save healthcare, and stop raising costs on Virginia families. They should also stop programs like DOGE and Project 2025 that hurt not just Virginia's federal workers and contractors, but all Americans.
Voters chose Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger because she has a proven record of lowering costs for Virginians and keeping us safe. Voters trust her and have given her the majorities needed to tackle the mess President Trump and Republicans have made when it comes to firing federal workers and cutting food and assistance and healthcare.
Congratulations to Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, Lieutenant Governor-elect Ghazala Hashmi, and all the winners tonight. I look forward to working with them to get our Commonwealth back on track.
